Mahjong Horoki

With its impressive black & white photography and convincing post-World War II set design, the film ably pulls off a stylistic technique that pays homage to earlier Japanese classics. The setup is vintage gambler yarn, starting with a mahjong neophyte who loses it all but then later comes back to become a top player.
